4 tips for a successful group corporate headshot photo session.

With over a decade of shooting group headshots sessions for some of Melbourne’s most successful companies, we’ve built up a list of our best tips to help ensure a smooth and stress free group corporate photography session for you and your team.

If you’ve ever been tasked with booking and organising a group headshot session for your office, you’ll understand that preparing for and managing the day can bring challenges.   Some employees will show up unprepared, sometimes the weather won’t cooperate, and sometimes your photographer isn’t experienced in handling bigger groups.

With over a decade of shooting group headshot sessions for some of Melbourne’s most successful companies, we’ve built up a list of our best tips to help ensure a smooth and stress-free group corporate photography session for you and your team.

Tip No. 1
Think about your colour and style.

Do you have a corporate uniform or brand colours?  Are you looking for a more formal or casual image?  Make sure you have a clear brief for your team before the shoot.  This doesn’t need to be too rigid and could be anything from wearing a formal suit, casual prints or your favourite denim shirt.  If you are looking for ideas, then have a chat with our team about your company’s brand ethos and we can give you some ideas on how to convey this through your imagery.

Tip No. 2
Pre-book times with employees.

Setting up a booking register for your employees allows busy team members to find a time slot that works for them ahead of the day.   At Corporate Headshots Melbourne we specialise in group professional photography, for larger shoots, we always have additional staff on hand to ensure a smooth session. We also like to keep a separate list of employees as their photos are taken in chronological order, as there are invariably some no-shows and employees who might switch spots.

Tip No. 3.
Send a reminder the night before.

Particularly in larger groups, some of your team may forget they have a photography session booked.  Sending a reminder email the night before with some general guidance about how to dress and the location details will ensure employees are pre-prepared.

Tip No. 4
Location, location, location!

While an outdoor shoot can be a great option if you have a smaller team,  if you have a larger group of 20 or more we’d recommend going with an in-studio or on-location shoot.  Apart from the risk of disruption from rain and wind, consistent lighting is hard to manage outdoors with generally just two hours of good lighting in the morning, and again in the late afternoon.

A studio backdrop is the most flexible option and provides consistency when you are using your headshots for a company about us page, as a bonus a well-executed backdrop and lighting setup will also ensure you can readily replicate the look if you need to do additional shots that match back to the rest of the team at a later date.
